Early Kimwood Sanders sometimes had large stock removal requirements for their application. These requirements dictated the use of very aggressive abrasive belts which had such a coarse and rough back that they were practically chewing up the smooth steel rolls. The idea of hard chrome high speed rolls grew quickly from these lumber sanding operations to other Kimwood Sanders doing industrial grade particleboard and MDF, and has since found its way into plywood and OSB sanding operations as well, due to the significant increase in the roll surface life. Based upon our observations the surface on a hard chrome roll will usually last at least twice as long as that of smooth steel.

On normal reconditioning jobs for chrome high-speed rolls, the existing chrome may have to be stripped and then re-chromed. However, in some cases the chrome roll might only need minor repair. In these instances the chrome surface can be reground to a "like-new" condition.

Chrome Plating of high speed rolls can extend the working life of contact rolls, combination contact rolls, tracking rolls, and idler rolls. It is an application that can be used on any of the high-speed rolls.

Delivery time for the above rolls varies depending on your particular roll application. Most chrome plated rolls, including reconditioning your existing rolls and/or changing smooth steel finish rolls into chrome plated rolls typically require about 3-5 weeks after receipt of purchase order.
